Harbor
Rendezvous
George Gray Award winner
Pastel Painting July
4, 2000
The
USCGC Willow was in position in
New
York harbor in the early morning hours to
be
a viewing platform for dignitaries and a few
select
COGAP artists. We had front row seats opposite the Statue of Liberty.
Of
all the research photos I took of the tall ships sailing by, none
were as impressive to me as one of the first photos I took that
day. This painting, from that photo, is of our approach to the WIllow
on a small Coast Guard Auxiliary boat. What a powerful and impressive
sight.
